Setting up a Recurring Donation

Setting up a Recurring Donation

You can create a new Recurring Donation for a Donor (Contact) directly in Salesforce.

To set up a new Recurring Donation in Konect, open the Contact record of the Donor. From the Contact, you can use the standard Salesforce NPSP New Recurring Donation Quick Action that will be available in the Header section. The QA could either be displayed as a button or it may be in the drop-down list of additional Actions.

If the New Recurring Donation Quick Action is not displayed, ask your System Administrator to add it to the Page Layout

The New Recurring Donation Modal will be displayed:

Standard NPSP New Recurring Donation Modal

Each of the Modal options is described below. Populate all required fields in the Modal to ensure the Recurring Donation is created successfully.

Input / Option

Description

Recurring Donation Name

Populate this based. on the Naming Convention for your organisation. This is mandatory.

For example: Donor Name - Amount

Date Established

The inception date for the Recurring Donation. This defaults to today but can be changed. This is mandatory.

Amount

The Amount for each Donation associated with the Recurring. This is mandatory.

Campaign

The Campaign the Donation is associated with. This is mandatory.

Installment Frequency

This can be left blank. It will be populated by the Salesforce NPSP on save. It is based on the Installment Period.

Installment Period

This is used to define the Schedule, or how often to create Donation Opportunities for the Recurring Donation.

Konect supports only the native values provided by the Salesforce NPSP. We do not recommend introducing your own custom values to this list.

Day of Month

Sets the specific day of the month for future installment Opportunities when the Installment Period is Monthly. If you select 29 or 30, the Installment Date will be the last day of the month for months that don't have that many days.

Once you save the Recurring Donation, the Modal will close and you can access your record by clicking the link in the Salesforce Toast Message:

Once the Recurring Donation has been created, the next step is to Sync it with Stripe to activate the Payment Processing. This is described below.

To activate the Payment Processing you must Sync the Recurring Donation with Stripe. This is done via the Recurring Donation Management Quick Action, see below:

Clicking this will display the following Modal:

As this is a new Recurring Donation that has not been Synced with Stripe, only the Create Stripe Subscription option is available. The other options are described in the dedicated Recurring Donation Management KB article.

Clicking Next will display the Sync options:

Use the Create Stripe Subscription step of the Modal provides to attach the desired Payment Method for the Recurring Donation. Konect supports only Credit Card and Direct Debit.

If existing Payment Methods are found in Stripe for the Donor (Contact) they will be displayed and can be used and associated with this Recurring Donation. If no existing Payment Methods are found, you can add the required details:

Once you have added the Payment Method (or select an existing) - reconfirm the Recurring Donation details and click Confirm. Once the process completes, Konect provides a dedicated Stripe Status component to display key information from the Stripe Subscription, see below:

That’s it! Your Recurring Donation is now created in Salesforce and Synced with Stripe. Stripe will now process Payments for the appropriate Donation Opportunities and update Salesforce with the result!
